WenGua extends the traditional six-line hexagram to nine-line variants and derives 4,096 unique forms.
The first three lines are the "front trigram", the middle three the "middle trigram", and the last three the "back trigram" — together they map to traditional inner/outer hexagrams.
There are 512 possible nine-line yin/yang combinations. Approximately 70% reuse the middle trigram; the remaining 30% construct the back trigram differently to create variety.
The total combinations of front/back pairs yield 4,096 unique hexagram forms.
